The Museum & Cultural Center at 5ive Points is excited to present Homeschool Days for the
2025-2026 academic year. Discover engaging, hands-on learning with new programs
specially designed for homeschool students! These interactive experiences combine
education and fun through themed activities, artifact engagement, STEAM connections and
more.
Homeschool Days are different from field trip offerings, so individual families are
encouraged to come and enjoy the fun! Participants should plan to attend the full amount
of time listed for the program, unless otherwise noted. Please be aware that some
programs are specific to different age groups.
Tickets must be purchased in advance (online or in-person) and are non-refundable. In the
event that a participant is unable to attend, the museum may allow the non-refundable
tickets to be used for a different Homeschool Days event. However, families must contact
the museum prior to the event in such cases. If the exchanged tickets are not used for one
of the events listed below, the non-refundable policy remains in effect. This policy helps us
manage event planning and attendance more effectively, since tickets reserve space and
resources that are specifically allocated for that date and time. We appreciate your help in
this matter.

December 9, 2025: Appalachian Christmas Traditions
10:00-11:30 (ages 3-14)
Do you know how people decorated their Christmas trees or marked Christmas Day in the mountains? What about the origins of the 12 Days of Christmas? Join us for a festive and educational Homeschool Day as we explore the rich heritage of Appalachian Christmas Traditions! Students will discover how early Appalachian settlers celebrated the holiday season and how many of those traditions are still evident today. Through a variety of engaging, hands-on activities, learners will dive into the past and also create their own Appalachian-inspired holiday art or craft to take home.
Celebrate the season, spark curiosity, and experience history in a fun and meaningful way!
January 27, 2026: Holocaust Remembrance
10:00-1:00 (ages 12-18)
Older Students: Join us for a reflective and meaningful learning session to deepen your understanding of International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Together, we will explore the historical context of the Holocaust by creating a detailed timeline of key events, view powerful survivor testimonies that bring personal stories to light, and participate in Wings of Hope, a thoughtful activity to honor Tennessee survivors and liberators. Wings of Hope is presented in cooperation with the Tennessee Holocaust Commission. This session offers a contemplative and vital opportunity to remember the past, reflect on its lessons, and consider the importance of standing against hatred and prejudice today. Note: This event is 3 hours.
March 24, 2026: Stories Quilts Tell
10:00-11:30 (ages 5-14)
Discover the rich history and hidden stories behind quilt patterns in this hands-on, creative learning session. We will explore how quilts have been used to share memories, mark important events, and express identity across cultures and generations. Through fun, interactive activities, students will learn to recognize common patterns and their meanings, then design their own no-sew quilt square that tells a story from their own life. This exciting session blends art, history, and personal storytelling in a memorable and meaningful way.
May 5: Trek Across Tennessee
10:00-11:30
Bring the whole family and enjoy trekking across Tennessee with our GIANT TENNESSEE MAP, courtesy of the Tennessee Geographic Alliance and the National Geographic Society. Using one of the world’s largest maps of the state (16’ X 20’), discover fun facts about our geography, history and resources through hands- and feet-on learning activities and games. And while you’re here, why not make their own Tennessee map (smaller scale, of course)? This opportunity doesn’t come along every day! Activities are primarily designed for K-8 students.
