Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, learn new things, and give back to the community! The Museum Center has several different ways you can give us the gift of your time:

Docent/Receptionists

Docent/Receptionists are the first “face” a visitor sees upon entering the museum.

Docent/Receptionists greet visitors, start them on their tours, and answer the phone.  They help out with clerical work as well.  Receptionists serve one of two shifts. The morning shift is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the afternoon shift is from 1-5 p.m. Volunteers can commit to as much as once a week or as little as once a month.  Current shift openings are on Wednesday mornings, the third Saturday of the month.  Substitute volunteers are also needed.  We give extensive training for this important and fun volunteer position!

Education Docents

The museum needs volunteers who like to work with children to meet the needs of its growing education program. Programs include: Appalachian Days in November, Civil War Expo in February, assisting with Missoula Children’s Theatre Camp in March, and then on an as-needed basis for booked tours for our other school programs. Education Volunteers need to be available for early morning tours  Monday – Friday.

Museum Store Volunteers

Volunteers are needed who will work one morning or afternoon in our Museum Store.  Volunteers help set up displays of items and keeps things looking neat, clean, and orderly.  Volunteers also help operate the store while staff work on other tasks.  If you have a flair for decorating, we need your help in the Museum Store.

General Volunteers

We occasionally have need for people to help with landscaping, repair projects, manning booths at festivals and events, and more. If you are willing to be ‘on call’ for the occasional small job, we’d love to keep you on our list.
