Telling the Story of the Ocoee Region Photography Contest

The Museum and Cultural Center at 5ive Points is pleased to announce a photography exhibition and contest that showcases the talent of local photographers and celebrates the history and beauty of our region. Photographers of all ages and skill levels are invited to submit photos for the exhibition and contest. All submissions will be on display at the Museum and Cultural Center from October 24, 2023 through February 3, 2024. Submissions will be accepted Tuesday, October 3, 2023 through Saturday, October 14, 2023 from 10 AM to 3PM. Each participant may submit up to three photographs for consideration. We encourage you to carefully select your best work that truly captures the essence of Tennessee’s past, present and future. Submissions must meet all guidelines detailed below.

THEME:

This year’s theme is “The Past, Present and Future of Tennessee,” it aims to celebrate the diverse heritage and vibrant spirit of our state. We encourage photographers to capture images that encapsulate the essence of Tennessee’s past, embrace the joys of the present and inspire hope for the future. Whether it is a captivating historical site, a bustling cityscape, or a heartwarming portrait of Tennessee residents, we want to see your unique perspective on our beloved state.

ELIGIBILITY:

The exhibition and contest is open to photographers of all ages and skill levels. Photographers must enter their work in one of the following divisions:

  • Professional – Photographers who receive income from photography.
  • Amateur – Beginning or amateur photographers at least 18 years of age or experienced photographers who do not receive income from photography.
  • Youth – Photographers aged 17 or younger.

GUIDELINES (All submissions must meet the following criteria):

  • Photographs must pertain to the theme of The Past, Present and Future of Tennessee.
  • Photographs can be either film or digital images; however, the chosen media must be indicated on the application.
  • Photographs must be matted.
  • Size: Image size (without matte) must be a minimum of 8 inches (in any direction).
  • Image sizes may not exceed 11”X14”. This size includes the matte.
  • All submissions must be accompanied by a completed application form found at the end of this document.
  • Photographers must note name, phone number and division on the back of their photo entry.
  • Photographers are allowed up to 3 submissions.

PRIZES:

First, Second, and Third Place prizes will be awarded to winning images in the following categories:

  • Landscape
  • Architecture
  • Wildlife
  • Portraiture

There will be three grand prize winners – one from the professional division, one from the amateur division, and one from the youth division.

EXHIBITION:

Photos will be on exhibit at the Museum and Cultural Center from October 24, 2023 through February 3, 2024.

DEADLINES/TIMELINE:

  • Photographs entered in the contest must be dropped off at the Museum and Cultural Center:
    • Tuesday through Saturday, October 9 – 13, 10AM – 3PM
  • Photographs will be judged:
    • Week of October 16, 2023
  • Photographs will be on exhibit at the Museum and Cultural Center:
    • October 24, 2023 – February 3, 2024

LEGAL CONDITIONS:

  • Your entry to the contest constitutes your agreement to allow your photographs and your name, city and state of residence to be published as award winners.
  • By entering, participants agree to have photos exhibited at the Museum and Cultural Center at 5ive Points from October 24, 2023 – February 3, 2024.
  • By entering, participants warrant that his or her entry materials are original and do not infringe on any third party’s rights.
  • By entering, participants release and hold harmless the Museum and Cultural Center at 5ive Points and sponsors from any liability.
  • All decisions by the photo contest judge will be final and binding.
