Recipients of the International Bluegrass Music Association’s international travel grant for 2025, Johnny & The Yooahoos will be traveling all the way from Germany to perform in several iconic venues across the US, and for the second straight year, local house concert venue PPPP Proudly Presents is bringing IBMA royalty to our stage!
If you were around for the show last year with Country Gongbang from South Korea, you know that the level of talent required to be selected by the IBMA for this grant is HIGH!! Rakish are a Celtic duo from Asheville, NC that embody the idea of musical exploration and playfulness on stage. Brought to you by the Undertakers of Cleveland, this band is the perfect complement for an incredible evening of culture and music!! Doors will open at 6:00pm with a cash bar followed by two, full, hour-long sets from each band! Music will start at 7:00pm. You definitely don’t want to miss this unique show! Rakish: Rooted in tradition with an ear toward the future, contemporary folk duo Rakish embodies earnest musical exploration and demonstrates an infectious playfulness on stage. In their sound together, it is evident the two friends share an unbridled love for the traditional sounds of Celtic and American music, and the tight ensemble of a group with years of collaboration under their belt. This amazing duo create and perform music with verve. Recent highlights of their travels include performances at the Library of Congress, Celtic Colours International Music Festival, Prince Edward Island’s Festival of Small Halls, the Corvallis Celtic Festival, and Official Showcases at Folk Alliance International. They have taught at esteemed fiddle camps across the country including Alasdair Fraser’s Sierra Fiddle Camp, Folk College, Katie McNally’s Boston States Fiddle Camp, and Hanneke Cassel’s Pure Dead Brilliant Fiddle Weekend.
Johnny & The Yooahoos: A lot has happened since Johhny and The Yooahoos first took to the stages of southern Germany in 2018. The combo has been welcomed to festivals in France, Ireland, Holland, Austria and Switzerland and, as winners of the IBMA International Band Travel Grant, will now have a five-week tour of the USA in summer 2025 at renowned venues such as the Grand Ole Opry, The Station Inn, ROMP Fest, the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival, and yes, our stage at the Museum!. The Yooahoos perform with banjo, mandolin, guitar, double bass and three-part vocals, and have remained true to themselves as they celebrate American folk music in their own way. So come, listen and be amazed when “Johnny & the Yooahoos” play!
